「Behind the Terrain – sketches on imaginative landscape」は“風景”に焦点をあて、東南・東アジアを中心に巡回する展覧会プロジェクトです。現代における移住や境界線といった言葉の定義付けが“風景”とどのように結びつけられているのかを、個人の歴史性だけでなく、追憶・記憶といったものの政治的な相互関係から考察することを目的にしています。
“風景”は決してニュートラルなものではなく、人々の欲望を投影する領域です。プロジェクトでは、異なる文化的な背景を持ち、また、一時的であれ永続的であれ移民的な存在でもあるアーティストの実践から、想像的な物語や土地の背後に隠された政治性という意味にける多様な「風景」を見出します。世界的な移動が通常化した現代において、“風景”が芸術実践としてどのように表現されうるのか、また、日本国内においてどのように“風景”を再考できるのかを、日本と東南アジアなど多角的な関係性のなかでとらえることを目指します。

このプロジェクトは2016年夏オーストリアのウィーンにて、ステファニー・ミサ、丸山美佳、リン・フォン・ギュンによって考案され、様々なアーティストやキュレーターとともに発展してきました。2016年11月にジョグジャカルタ（インドネシア）、2017年3月にハノイ（ベトナム）にて展覧会を行い、それぞれの場所に合わせてプロジェクトの形式や内容を変容させてきています。東京展は2018年5月12日（土）から27日（日）まで小金井アートスポットシャトー2Fをメイン会場として開催されます。

“Behind the Terrain – sketches on imaginative landscape” is an exhibition project that travels around Southeast/East Asia, focusing on “landscape”. The project examines questions that emerge from the interrelation of memory, individual historicities, migration, borders, and how these connect with the geopolitics of landscape. Following the Yogyakarta (Indonesia, 2016) and Hanoi (Vietnam, 2017), the exhibition in Tokyo will be held at the Koganei Art Spot Chateau 2 F on May 12th [Sat] till 27th [Sun]. The project hosts various parallel events, including an exhibition at the Korea University, a symposium at Musashino Art University, film screenings, performances, and an artist talk.
The exhibition features diverse works and practices from artists with different cultural backgrounds (as temporary or permanent immigrants), that expound on the concept of landscape as never a neutral entity, but rather an empty field unto which to project desires. On the occasion of Behind the Terrain in Tokyo, the project tries to re-consider “landscape” in Japan as well as its multifaceted relationship with Southeast Asia.
